People of Fiji had been told of corruption and questionable dealings by those who were considered the marshals, saviours and guardians of the Fijian race. When Frank Bainimarama sacked the government and took charge, his reasoning, among others, was to save the Fijian race from unscrupulous and wanting leadership. My purpose here is to substantiate this through reporting on Senate proceedings of some 14 years ago.

In the past 20 years there have been three coups in Fiji...

...Instead of incremental constitutional changes being formulated and validated by referendum the country was forced to endure the elaborate facade of a constitutional commission led by a former Anglican Archbishop of New Zealand. The commission proceeded to tour the country and then formulate proposals for a grand scheme of constitutional changes. So blessed and sanctified how could it not succeed...

The Qoliqoli Bill sought to bring about changes to a range of fundamental principles. To understand these changes reference needs to be made to Fiji's history and in particular its colonial history:

Exotic forests are not a new phenomenon and in the parts of the world where they do exist forest harvesting  scarcely gives rise to  difficulty.
